An Egyptian Sun pillar from Heliopolis, city of the Sun, was imported to Rome in 37 CE to embellish Caligula’s new carnival. The monument holds a place of special honor directly in front of St. Peter’s cathedral. Caligula obelisk stands in a very unclean place: the hill known as Vaticanus is an ancient graveyard of the Etruscans. Tourists are told what it is, and where they are standing, but don't seem to care. Roman Catholic adherents follow a line of men claiming a title of the Caesars; Pontifex Maximus. A Caesar was thought of as a god-man, claiming the title Pontifex Maximus (high priest), assisted by his Cardinals, priests of the Sun. The Egyptian Sun Pillar was imported to Rome as an enhancement to the Carnival of Caligula to a Roman graveyard in 37 CE, and hordes of visitors look upon it as a blessed object.
